Opening Game Tow Truck Wars

Tuesday, April 1, 2008

Last Saturday and Sunday was opening day over at the new Nationals Park. While everyone was really excited to get over to the game area residents sat back and watched the cluster that was happening on the streets. On Thursday d. had gone around and changed many of the parking signs to no parking signs leaving no street parking around New Jersey and Second Street area. Some area residents do not have garage parking so what ever spots were open in and around the area were most likely gone. So what do you do if you are someone that has driven to the game and need parking? Well most of them just parked in the no parking areas. However, they probably didn’t have a car when they got out of the game.

My parents and I sat and watched the DC MPD tow trucks go to work. It was almost like a game for them. They were going nuts back and forth driving in an unsafe way looking for cars with orange tow stickers. I think just in the Second Street area they towed about 5 cars. WTOP is saying that over 100 cars were towed for illegally parking. Believe it or not but Saturday was worse than Sunday and I don’t think that we are out of the woods yet. As the summer inches closer and more and more tourists come to town I think they won’t know about the parking issues. 99% of stadiums in the country have parking….that’s all but Nationals Park!
