I've heard Michelle Rhee speak and I've seen her being interviewed. My opinion and gut feeling about her is that she is going to do what none of her predecessors have been able to do. First and foremost, she cares about children and their right to a quality education. Michelle Rhee doesn't accept what so many others have about children in urban areas and schools. She has her convictions, which I share, and she is going to stand her ground to make her point and to see much needed change. Maybe she fired 750 teachers because they were doing their jobs. Maybe they will be replaced with other individuals who want to teach children and want children to learn. Listen to her speak! She makes more sense than anyone else I've heard speak about education in the U.S. If you listen to her and support her, her model can spread outside of D.C. to other urban areas and across the country. OK, she makes a lot of money, but maybe if they paid teachers better salaries, they would do better jobs too. And believe me, while Ms. Rhee is being chauffeured around town, she is maximizing her time in the back seat working on implementing her brilliant plans. I think she is a genius and I wish her the best of luck.
