Fare Card Machines To Give $1 Coins

Thursday, January 1, 2009

Before smart trip cards were around I always hated getting a Metro fare card with a $20.00 bill.  You always got like 50 thousand quarters back in change.  On the way out of the station the homeless would always hear your pocket or purse that had 60lbs of change jingling together.  Well now the purse will weigh less but still jingle.  Metro fare card machines, about 900 of them, will now distribute those $1 coins that no one uses and cashiers will give you dirty looks when you pay for your items with them!  This happened to me more than once when I was in San Jose.

But will the machines *accept* dollar coins? That was my previous irritation with them after visiting a bank vending machine :D

@Joe: Good question. I would guess not!
