Living In The District

Homicides up in DC for 2008

Friday, January 2, 2009

The numbers are out and the grand total of homicides for the District are slightly up from last year. In 2007 there were 181 homicides and last year (2008) there were 186. The District is seeing far less homicides then it did back in 1991 when it became know as the “murder capital” of the United States. That year the district recorded 479 homicides [info]. Police are not concerned with the small increase in murders but are concerned with the age of the killers and victims which are teenagers. What will 2009 bring?
