DC Residents: Pay Federal Tax, Your Local Tax will Calculate how Much Federal you Paid

Friday, January 16, 2009

A new sign is going up in downtown on the Wilson Building at 1350 Pennsylvania Ave. NW. The sign, which is just like the national debt sign in NYC reads “DC Residents Federal Tax Dollars Paid.” It will have a running total of the amount of money that DC residents have paid towards the federal government with out be represented, “Taxation without Representation.” Obama has said that he will change this but currently he doesn’t have the votes on the hill for it to pass.

How much local tax dollars was spent on this sign and how much local tax dollars will it cost to keep the sign up and running? There has to be computer software running the sign and someone to support it right? And, What happens when or if they pass the DC voting rights sign? How much local tax dollars was wasted on a no longer needed sign?

Kwame Brown’s Inaugural Blog has photos of the sign.
