DC Teachers earn an “F” in Nation Wide Study
Thursday, January 29, 2009
District of Columbia teachers received a grade of an F in a new nation wide study. The National Council on Teacher Quality studied the quality of teachers and found that the average of teacher quality for most states was a D. Only one state South Carolina got a B. DC and 4 other states earned a F. The AP article says “States are not doing what it takes to keep good teachers and remove bad ones”, which is exactly what Michelle Rhee is trying to do in DC.
Another great line in the article is
“Tenure is not a job guarantee. But it is a significant safeguard, preventing teachers from being fired without just cause or due process.”
