DC Teachers Won’t be Highest Paid in Country This Year

Tuesday, February 10, 2009

DC School teachers wont be getting all that promised raise that Michelle Rhee had talked about. Rhee says that the slumping economy has effected the increase in teachers salaries. Teachers were slated to get a minimum increase of 28% over 5 years. Her goal is to have teachers make $135,000 a year and be the nation’s highest payed teachers. Last week Mayor Fenty and Michelle Rhee announced more school closures because of down enrollment. This is all on the heals of an announcement yesterday that says 14 out of 17 high schools have increased there graduation rate and attendance rate.
