DCPS 2Hr Delay: Parents Complain

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

Update 7:41am: Here is one of those teachers in DCPS that is annoyed and complaining because she actually had to get up and go to work and do the job she was hired for! Maybe she should be first on the chopping block when Rhee fires teachers that are there to just ride the wave and collect the paycheck!

Original Post: DC was in a lose lose situation yesterday when It came to keeping schools open. Like my mother told me once your damned if you do and damned if you don’t! But it’s always funny to read the comments of parents complaining the next day.

“The DCPS decision to open schools is very frustrating,” Sigrid Ford, who has children at Banneker and McKinley high schools, said in an e-mail to Chancellor Michelle A. Rhee.

Mayor Fenty summed up the decision like this,

“We don’t believe that the condition of the roads should have prevented anyone from getting to school within the two-hour delay that we gave.”

However, on the other hand many DC residents are giving high praise to the Fenty Administration for clearing the roads in a timely manor.

The way DC shuts down when there is snow is ridiculous. 2 extra hours is plenty of time for everyone to get to work. Most people in DC could walk either to work, or the closest metro in that amount of time.
