Metro Cuts Jobs

Metro has started to eliminate jobs. 40 Metro employees have been laid-off and more are coming. The cuts will bring Metro employee numbers below 10,000 and try to cut a $29 million budget gap.

WMATA getting more phone carriers for riders. "Four major cell phone companies -- Verizon Wireless, Sprint Nextel, AT&T and T-Mobile -- will build a new wireless infrastructure in the underground rail system during the next four years."

Southwest: Police Station on the Move

1st District Police Station is moving to M street Southwest near the new Baseball Stadium. The move will make way for a new $220 million forensics laboratory and will occupy the old Anthony A. Bowen Elementary School which is located near the DMV office on M Street.
